I have read in many places that programming students in universities fall into the misconception that they will be "industry-ready" by the time they graduate. This is not in any way the fault of the students for believing that since that is what many colleges sell their programs to be. However, in reality, only very few students can be competitive by the time they graduate. This is simply because school cannot teach you everything. The format of education that a school offers disallows for too much specificity.
Also, while you may think that this one specific job description is "niche," the reason it is there is because employers realize they need to put that there. Programming students' over-reliance on school and education is deeply hurting their competitiveness by the time they graduate. Because let us face it, school is stuck in the present. Sometimes, it is even stuck in the past. On the other hand, technology, in particular programming, is always in the future. It is always expanding and diving into the depths of specificity.
So, I will ask the same questions I asked in the seminar:
"Are you able to evolve with technology?"
"Are you able to stay competitive?"
"Do you even know what it takes to be competitive?"
"Do you really know how to teach yourself programming?"
The goal of this book is to hopefully make you answer 'yes' to all of these questions.
