The new format combines a channel-based audio bed with an object-based representation of sounds, allowing specific sound effects to be placed and moved throughout the theater, creating a breathtakingly realistic and immersive audio experience. Sound designers and performers can freely mix these components in a three-dimensional space, controlling effects through the rear channels and seamlessly adding a vertical dimension with separate overhead channels. In large commercial theaters, this new system supports up to 128 audio tracks and up to 64 independent speaker signals.
