Hi, and welcome to my course "Masterclass Debating Skills"!
With this compact 5-session-course, I want to help you...
• become a confident and skilled debater,
• see through manipulative populist strategies, and counter them effectively,
• win arguments,
• and truly enjoy any debate you participate in.
We all find ourselves in the middle of a debate all the time: at work, in our family, among friends, whenever we deal with politics, and virtually any issue where there is more than one opinion around.
The more challenging our times become, the more challenging it becomes to discuss the issues that matter most. In a complex and fast-moving world, it is hard to keep track of all the information we need in any debate.
Populists know this.
They have developed effective debating strategies to get what they want from you. And they have become very good at their game.
However: for every strategy, there is a counter-strategy. This course will introduce you to the most powerful ones - and you will learn how to use them. Quick and easy. No prior knowledge required.

HOW do we go about this in the course?
To meet the populist challenge, we need good equipment. We need a tool kit that helps us spot populism, understand it, see through it, and fight it effectively. In this course, you will build your own tool kit that works best for you. There will be many tools for you to choose
• background information on what populism is and where it's coming from,
• clear and straight analysis of how it works, and why it is dangerous for democracy,
• insights why it is so attractive for many people,
• and helpful expert knowledge: any populist's 5 favorite moves, and how to counter them effectively
There is lots of material for you to practice after every session

• reading material,
• real-life "exercises" you can try out in your everyday life,
• at the end of the course you can attend an optional live webinar (charged separately) where we discuss real-life examples from you, the participants, and find the best solution for your challenge together.

■ This course is for anyone who works with people. For all who know about the importance of having a good and constructive debate. It is a course for teachers and teacher educators; students, anyone in the teaching professions; entrepreneurs and freelancers; journalists and media producers; politicians and business consultants; political activists and NGO members.
■ In this course, I am not going to tell you how to be a history teacher in high school, or how to run your business, or how to give a good lecture on economics at college, or how to research a piece for your blog or podcast. You know all this. I am going to show you how to be MORE EFFECTIVE as a teacher, entrepreneur, journalist, activist, or engaged citizen. In this course, you will learn how to get a major problem of our time out of the way: populism. You will learn how to spot populism and its characteristics. You will learn how to counter populist strategies effectively. So you can do what you really want to do, and care about: be great at your job, and live a satisfying private life.
