Description
This course is about critical thinking. It is learning "how" to think and not "what to think". It starts with the definition of critical thinking in order to gain a shared understanding of what the concept entails. It then continues to discuss the different cognitive skills required for critical thinking. The skills of interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation, and self-regulation are discussed in terms of their sub-skills and guide the learner through some question prompts in their application. It further provides different frameworks for the application of critical thinking in business decision-making or academic assignments. These frameworks include the Elements of Thought framework as well as the IDEALS framework. It also elaborates on the intellectual standards of thinking. The similarities and differences between critical thinking dispositions and intellectual virtues are discussed. For academics, this course provides high-level guidelines in terms of different strategies that can be used to teach critical thinking in the classroom. It also discusses a generalised rubric that can be used to measure critical thinking. Every section provides downloadable summaries of the material discussed in that section. It also provides worked examples on the critical thinking frameworks.
